Pierce led road-inspiring Celtics to ruin Jazz in OT

The fact : The Boston Celtics weren’t pretty tired after contesting five games in seven days back.

However, They had enough left to play overtime to conclude a long Western road trip, topping the Utah Jazz 110-107 on Monday contest. They were resourceful and able to play clutch basketball.

Paul Pierce, DeMarre Carroll

Veteran Paul Pierce carried Boston with 26 points, including seven huge straight in the extra session. He was terrific and clutch in extra time with big buckets. “It was huge,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “Whatever that was, it was the best win of the year for me. . To go into overtime and still have enough to win.”

Other Veteran of C’s , Garnett chipped in four points in overtime on 2-of-2 shooting, with three rebounds. He finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, a blocked shot and steal. The Celtics also collected a big contribution from young Avery Bradley, who dropped a season-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Pierce had a chance to finish work in regulation, but his 19-footer at the buzzer rimmed out.

Overall, the game saw 13 lead changes and was tied 17 times.”We were in position,” said Jazz forward Marvin Williams. “We fought back in the fourth quarter to force overtime but Boston just made big plays down the stretch.” Inspiring Gordon Hayward led Utah with 26 units, Millsap had 16 and Al Jefferson finished with  another double 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Celtics (30-27) were playing their fifth game in seven days, but had energy and abilities to win the game. The Jazz (31-26) led 101-99 in extra time on DeMarre Carroll’s 21-jump shoot, but  strong-willed Pierce countered with a 3-pointer, then followed with a pull-up jumper over Carroll and a 15-footer to give the Celtics a 106-101 final edge with 1:12 left.

“We knew this was probably going to be the toughest game for us physically and mentally,” Pierce said. “Talking about a long road trip, coming in to one of the toughest places to play. We felt we could salvage this trip with a win here. So guys did a good job of just being mentally tough, digging in and doing what we had to do to get the win.”

“We wanted to win in regulation,” Pierce said. “It would have felt better just to get a stop when we needed it. That’s what we need to get better at. We didn’t do it in Portland. We didn’t do it tonight. That’s what we need to start focusing on. When we get the lead and we need crucial stops, we have to figure out how to get them.”

Paul is the first Clippers to lift the trophy of the All-Star MVP

A trophy is a reward for a specific achievement, and serves as recognition or evidence of merit.

Yes that night, Paul deserved his trophy as he was terrific and unselfish to offer tremendous moves.

The Facts

Why did Chris Paul become the MVP that night ?

Chris Paul All star MVP

Chris Paul did exactly what to do with the great talents around him in Sunday’s NBA All-Star game: find at ease the open man and make the show bigger and pace the game.

He made 7-of-10 shots, including four 3-pointers, and only became the third player to drop at least 20 points and 15 assists in the annual showcase, joining a couple of former elite point guards, called Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas, the best point guards in the 90’S.

A big Season with Clippers

Paul became the first Los Angeles Clippers player to be named MVP, scoring 20 points and collecting 15 dimes in the West’s 143-138 win over the East.

The first step of  a spectacular game was for…

The first dunk of the game came 16 seconds in a move where Paul handed out a pass to Griffin.

The West led after each of the first three quarters, though was never ahead by more than eight points through three periods.

Serve is my will

Paul said. “A guy like me, that’s a facilitator, I enjoy (it).”

Paul already had the best per-game assists average in All-Star history, 12.4 in four appearances.

He already had nine dimes and plenty of fancy dribbling in the first half.

But with so many stars to choose from, Paul could spread it around…

Paul also pitched assists to Kevin Durant, who finished with 30 units for another big all star game. Also CP3 liked providing teammates , like Griffin and more..

A crafty player able to steal and share

Paul, leading the league this season with 2.59 steals per game, tailed four in the All-Star game.

“He had great passes, (was) making steals, made big buckets,” Durant said. “He played a hell of a game. It was a pleasure playing with him.”

Paul is averaging 9.6 dimes – second to Boston’s  clever Rajon Rondo – in his second season with the  rising Clippers. More significantly, he’s led the Clippers to a 39-17  overall record and he, Blake Griffin and “Lob City” have helped their franchise steal some of the L.A. spotlight from the floundering Lakers, who  currently sit 10th in the Western Conference with an unbalanced team which is looking for a post season appearance in a tough Western Conference.

130215234227-kenneth-faried-mvp-award-02152013.story-top

Faried of the Denver Nuggets is the new BBVA Rising Stars Challenge MVP.

Team Chuck 163, Team Shaq 135

The second year , the Manimal  literally crashed the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge all right and all night, winning the game’s MVP Award for the first time. He played  his basketball with his  intense dunks, and not only in the final 90 seconds or so, when both sides did not play defense and mostly stood and watched one player car down the runway on either side of basket . Kyrie Irving, a rising star was pretty good with 32 units but not enough to overcome Faried’s 40 points.

Chemistry was in favor of Chuck side.

Team Chuck really outscored Team Shaq 42 -28 in a key sector , ” the assists house ” .

Ricky Rubio and I.Thomas contributed for 20 flashy dimes.

I.Thomas was the best player of the game in +/- with a huge advantage of  +30.

That night, Rubio and Faried liked playing together. How timely ! Will Rubio and Faried play together for a big NBA team, for one day ?

• Rubio hits Faried on the oop

Faried  seriously attacked the rim and secured big boards like nobody, too, collecting a big double-double with 40 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes for the winning lineup as Team Chuck (Barkley)  seriously outlast Team Shaq (O’Neal) 163-135 in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge in HOUSTON, Texas.

Shaq must be in the dumps, because he loathes losing. He’s a winner.

Team Chuck was more aggressive and played better to beat Team Shaq.

Faried was the MVP, but the Cavaliers were in majority.

Indeed, four  members of the rotation in Cleveland were on the court in Houston: Tristan Thompson for Team Chuck and Kyrie Irving, Tyler Zeller and Dion Waiters for Team Shaq. Irving, a reserve for the Eastern Conference in the  great All-Star Game on Sunday, had 32 points, six assists, five rebounds .

But how about the defense ? Defense is not a priority in that kind of contest.  Yes , spectacular moves are wanted by players and spectators. We love watching energy in offensive possessions, but some defensive actions can be asked to make the game and reinforce the will to win !

And what do you think about the defense ?

“Not in the first half,” Zeller stated.

Team Chuck tailed 90 points by then while shooting 66.1 percent. At the break, Faried scored already 19 points and Isaiah Thomas of the Sacramento Kings added 14 while going a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc. After the defense clamped down  after the break, the “Chucks” summarized the game at 63.9 percent.

The players were young and fresh !

Lebron James is rolling in deep with his shooting selection and he is producing  many versatile copies.

james

From basketball-reference.com.

Just look at James’s numbers please ! James has 21 double-doubles and 2 triple-doubles but  missed often that performance for only one assist.

Barrier breaker !

Lebron James is the first player in the league to drop at least 30 points and shoot at least 60 percent in six straight games.

I love watching LeBron James running the floor and go to the basket to throw down spectacular dunks.

This night, LeBron James dropped 30 points , 9 dimes and collected 6 boards vs Blazers. James is the top leader in versatile games. James holds an NBA high 16 games with 30 pts, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Kevin Durant a warrior for MVP Title is second , 6 games behind with a double-digit production of 10.

Stronger than Jordan ? Oh, be patient, MJ who will turn on 50 years and has 6 NBA titles. LeBron James has only one ring.

For this game against Portland Trail Blazers  a team highlighted by a surprising first year boy , called Damian Lillard.

Blazers have seen who is Lebron James. Damian Lillard was terrific with a game high of 33 units.  So far,It was the 25th time Lillard scored more than 20 points this season, adding to his rookie-of-the-year credentials. Sure Lillard is the top rookie.

Well, tremendous stats continue to pile up for LeBron James. And there seems to be no end . We are the witness of such an unique player !  James is rolling deep and Heat are furious.  It’s a 6th consecutive win for Floridian guys.

LeBron is finding his way in paint to increase his percentage.

James is phenomenal in shooting choice.

He has made 66 of his last past 92 shoots. Now he stands alone in an exercise who only Malone and Dantley succeeded to collect 5 consecutive game with 30 points or more while shooting 60% from the floor.

Also to win this game, the trident Bosh , Wade, and … were pretty good and collected together an amazing total of 86 points, while shooting 32 for 49 from the field. In union we trust !

It was the 1000th regular season win in heat history after a total of 1969 games.  Now Miami is .058%.

Miami has been in the Nba since 1989 and was sometimes in trouble to win games. But now  , Bosh, Wade, James are making the history of South Beach ! But the story of the night is for sure, the new accomplishment made by LeBron James.

Rookie Motor ! Ladies and Gentlemen it’s time to evoke the best rookies of the league in the NBA.

So, This column ranks sharply the best rookies among the league …

D.Lillard, A.Davis are in good position, the last games will be crucial if Davis solved his injuries to play more minutes.

If you don’t remember, it’s always good and interesting to evoke the former rookie of the last campaign.

Kyrie Irving, from Duke, was terrific in his first year.

He was 18.5 points per game , 5.4 apg and 3.7 rpg in 51 games. He played in 30.5 minutes per game.

Nowadays, after learning all the tricks of the tough NBA. He is clearly in the top 10 among all guards. Byron Scott is fussy with his cornerstone player. He wants Kyrie to produce perfect basketball, but we have a problem in Cleveland. Cleveland is drowning his basketball.

Irving shows an amazing ability to got into the lane at ease with a furious first step. Also he breaks down defenders off the dribble and his assist’s capacity is real. It will only rise as the Cavs put a better team around him.

After playing just eleven games at Duke due to injury, Kyrie Irving was a somewhat unknown at N°1. But it did not take long time for the very confident australian native point guard to cement himself as the first choice of the 2011 draft. He’s not only a shining prolific scorer , with 18.5 ppg in his first year. He was able to sink clutch shots and showed a leadership that will make him the angularstone of the lowly Cavs, rebuilding without LeBron James in South Beach.

This season, Irving was annoyed because of physic failure, but he is on the game when he takes the control of the game.

On Sat Dec 15, 2012 , Kyrie Irving scored a career-high 41 points on 15-for-25 shooting while wearing a black face mask after breaking a bone in his face against the Bucks on Friday night .

Rookie motor : Lillard is the number one to lead Portland.

On 11 January 2013 a new first year boy emerged as a veteran player.

THE FACTS: Making his first professional appearance in his native town of Oakland, Portland Trail Blazers rookie Damian Lillard stole the show Friday. The Golden State Warriors weren’t going to let him steal the victory, however.

Lillard, the No. 6 pick in this year’s draft, netted a career-high 37 points and the best for a rookie but couldn’t quite drag the Blazers all the way back from a 20-point third-quarter deficit and the Warriors hung on to win 103-97.

Lillard missed seven straight shots and was 3-for-11 on the night before exploding for 29 points over the game’s final 16 1/2 minutes. He went 12-for-14 and 5-for-7 on 3-pointers in that stretch, an unstoppable display that almost snatched a fifth straight victory for Portland.

Lillard’s teammates weren’t able to match his brilliance, however. The rest of the Trail Blazers shot just 29.9 percent from the floor, including a combined 6-for-29 performance from tired LaMarcus Aldridge and Wesley Matthews.

Lillard played in Utah for the first time since leaving Weber State , a shot drive from Salt Lake City, the land of Jazz franchise.

Lillard had a warm welcome before dropping 26 units despite a shy start. Lillard scored 20 of his 26 after the break.

He ranks five in the NBA in minutes per game with 38.6.

For me, he is the favourite to join Kyrie Irving, and others players who broke the house down before.

On 26 December 2012. he was just two rebounds shy of his first career triple double in his 39 career game.

Next motor : A strong forward who loves blocking shots.

TRANSACTIONS: Selected by the New Orleans Hornets with the 1st overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

COLLEGE (University of Kentucky 2011-12): Left Kentucky for the NBA after leading Wildcats to a national championship in his freshman season…won six of the seven major National Player of the Year awards, getting the nod from the AP, USBWA and Basketball Times, and capturing the Wooden, Adolph Rupp and Naismith awards…named Final Four Most Outstanding Player as UK won a national title…led the nation in blocks (4.65 bpg), while leading the team in scoring (14.2 ppg), rebounding (10.4 rpg) and field goal percentage

PERSONAL: Proud Member of the 2012 U.S. Men’s Olympic basketball team that captured the gold medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics…averaged 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per game while shooting 64.7% from the floor for Team USA at the London Olympics…

Davis was a terrific player before to join the NBA. The hype was not a lie !! Davis produced impressive numbers !!

Averaged 32 points, 22 rebounds, and seven blocked shots as a senior at Perspectives Charter High School in Chicago…named Co-MVP of the Jordan Brand Classic All-American Game with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks…registered 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks in the McDonald’s All-American Game…posted 16 points with 10 rebounds for the USA team in the Nike Hoops Summit

2. Anthony Davis : 1st overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

Davis needs more games and more minutes to display his basketball skills. Two question emerge to talk about him.

Is he a good player ? He is able to play 30-35 minutes like the favourite Lillard ?

Firstly, you don’t want to cruise the ranking, especially considering his early season injuries. Then, Hornets are struggling and are not exactly the same team without Chris Paul an MVP contender. Indeed Hornets are not really a threatening team to make the post season this season. The first pick is asking for more minutes. If you push Davis with 30-35 minutes per game he is averaging 16 ppg and 10 repg with 2 blocks. And he posted 7 of his 8 double doubles in that split. whereas he played less than 30 minutes he’s 11.11 ppg and only 5.6 rebs per game.

Currently he’s averaging 28.3 mpg for 13.1 ppg 7.6 rebspg and 1.8 blocks per game in 36 games.

Take a break ! The Next dude is a monster boy of 19 years old.

We have unfortunately lost Celtic rookie Sullinger for the season to back issues. So hopefully Drummond’s recent injury is solved.

act_andre_drummond

3. Pistons rookie Andre Drummond : 9 th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. A good choice.

Drummond played only 5 fives minutes on Wednesday , for a rare virgin box score ,when 0 boards , for only the second time this season.

He says the injury isn’t related to an injury from the summer, so hopefully this is something that won’t linger, because the Pistons’ rookie has been impressive lately. In his last prolific game the big boy missed his 9 double doubles for one rebound.

From Elias: Pistons rookie Andre Drummond had 12 rebounds and three blocked shots while playing 19:31 in Detroit’s win over Cleveland on Monday. Since the NBA began tracking blocked shots in 1973, only three other rookies have had a game of at least 12 rebounds and three blocked shots while playing fewer than 20 minutes: Robert Parish in 1976, Ralph Sampson in 1983 and Brian Williams (later known as Bison Dele) in 1992.

Drummond’s 18/18 Game Is The First By A Detroit Rookie Since 1978

From Elias: Rookie Andre Drummond registered 18 points and 18 rebounds for the Pistons in their loss to the Bucks. Drummond is the first Pistons rookie with that many points and rebounds in one game since Terry Tyler recorded 24 points and 18 rebounds on Oct. 17, 1978 against the New Orleans Jazz.

4. A man who likes being in the intense cold of Minnesota with Wolves. It’s for a while the good surprise to break the famous afro american hegemony in the production of the next faces of the NBA.

The Russian guy is learning how to be tough in the NBA full of wild and voracious players.

Shved was undrafted , but as a free agent from Euroleague, he brings a lot into the NBA with his basketball IQ.

In my sorting, I choose to award an European dude because he’s producing a good basketball execution. He takes care of the ball and shares the ball at ease. And I love his shoots.

In the five games since coming back from a sprained ankle, Alexey Shved has averaged 11.4 points and 4.4 assists, scoring in double-digits in three of the five. He has, however, struggled a little bit from the field, shooting just 38 percent from the field and 26% from 3-point range.

So far, this season he’s 0.313% from deep with 61 3 pointers connected.

Minnesota is 2-0 when A.Shved posted a double-double assists / points.

Is it the end of a great player ?

Jason Kidd has been silent for almost two seasons in triple doubles.

This season has seen 25 triple doubles posted by 18 different players and Jason Kidd is not on that list. Is Jason Kidd able to produce a triple double at almost 40 to  join  point guard Rajon Rondo, Jose Calderon, J.Holiday who dropped triple doubles this season.

The injured Rajon Rondo paces the league in triple double with 5. And Celtics are 23-5 when Rondo makes a triple doubles.

This season Rajon Rondo overtook KG’s 16th career regular season triple-doubles. He tied Bryant’s career triple doubles with 18.

Rajon Rondo will missed the entire season ! I hope to see him in post season but human body is not a toy.

Resting is necessary after a ACL injury.

To be healthy , Rondo will undergo surgery on his torn right ACL in the next 10-to-14 days, as the swelling in his knee will take some time to dwindle, Sports Illustrated reports.

Jason Kidd  rested during the Mavs’ regular-season finale, which means that he failed to record a triple-double in a season for the first time in his 18-year career.

Now in this 19-year career, he did not success to record a triple doubles with Big Apple. He will turn 40 years old on Mar 23, 1973.

However I hope to see Kidd complete another triple menace production for my pleasure.

I like to see this kind of performance in a basketball game to recognize  the best players able to push the ball, to find teammates for easy buckets, score baskets, and last but not least be able to protect the glass by pulling down safety inbound.

The main question of this paper is to see if Jason Kidd is able to produce this performance again for a last dance.

For me , if you consider figures, Kidd is 7,7 ppg, 3,7 apg 4,1 rpg, in 27.9 minutes per game !

It would be very complicate to make a double digits production in three categories during a game for the veteran player.

Kidd is not young, and energy would lack to complete this performance.

Kidd scored only three points Monday in 20 minutes, but at least his back injury doesn’t appear to be serious. He will continue to have limited fantasy value due to his limited playing time.

Saturday 1/26 in a loss vs Philadelphia It marked just the 3rd time in Jason Kidd’s career to have 0 points AND 0 assists in a game. He had also 0 points and 0 assists in the Knicks’ loss to the Bulls earlier this season on Fri 1/11.

Kidd has shown his constancy since he joined the NBA in 1994-1995 season  drafted at the 1st round, 2nd by DALLAS seeking for an elite point guard.

And they found it ! Kidd was a guy in which a team could rely on during almost 20 years.

Kidd played in 1356 contests and has 107 regular season triple doubles. Has has 11 post season triple doubles in 146 crucial games.

Kidd was in rolling since the start of his career,  as he began his rookie season by posting 4 triple doubles.

Look this table to see how prolific the San Francisco was during his successful career.

Kidd came within one point of a triple-double when he had 10 rebounds and 12 assists in a win over the Golden State Warriors with Dallas.

His 107 career triple-doubles rank behind only Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson in NBA history and are more than the combined total of the next four active triple-double leaders (LeBron James, Grant Hill, Kobe Bryant, Rajon Rondo).

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kidd’s 17 consecutive seasons with a triple-double is by far the longest such streak in NBA history. Next on that list: Johnson (12), Robertson (11), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (10) and Larry Bird (9).

Rajon Rondo is the best young player in this exercise

Memories of the last post season with big games of Rajon Rondo.

Rajon Rondo made plenty of history in the Boston Celtics’ 90-84 overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Rondo became the first player in NBA history with at least 17 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists and four steals in a playoff game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Elias also tells us he’s the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a playoff game after missing his team’s previous game.

Rondo’s ten career playoff triple-doubles are the second best  LeBron James is third with 8 the among active players. both players Rondo and James  under 30 are trailing only veteran Jason Kidd’s 11.

Rondo really steps his game up in the playoffs. He notches triple-doubles more than three times as often in the playoffs as he does in the regular season.

He’s done so once every 26 games in the regular season, but once every 9 games in the playoffs.

Per Elias, Rondo’s seven triple-doubles in his first 75 playoff games is tied with Kidd for the fourth-most in NBA history.

Only Magic Johnson (18), Wilt Chamberlain (8) and Oscar Robertson (8) had more in their first 75 playoff games.

Only five players in NBA history have more than Rondo’s seven career playoff triple-doubles. Magic Johnson (30) is the all-time leader in that category.

Rondo has etched his name in playoff book by joining an elite list of NBA all-time greats.

From Elias: Rajon Rondo’s triple-double on Friday was his 3rd straight against the Hawks. Rondo is the first player to have a triple-double in 3 straight games vs one team since Jason Kidd did it against the Bobcats (1/4/08 to 2/8/08)
Rajon Rondo has 15 triple-doubles since start of last season (including playoffs). The next-most in NBA in that span is LeBron James with 3.

Are the Celtics actually better without Rajon Rondo ?

Yes, they’re much more cohesive on the floor

No, don’t be ridiculous — he is their best

Motion would be answered in a next paper.
